11 All Natural Hacks For Men to Boost Libido, Mood, and Energy

Do you feel like you may have lost a step - in the gym, at work, or in the bedroom?  Be it energy, mood or libido, sometimes we all need a little boost.

When you're 18, you feel like Superman, but the cold hard facts tell us our body's change as we get older.   Total testosterone decreases by approximately 30% in healthy men ages 25-75.   Even more concerning, free testosterone levels decline much more significantly, with 50% drops the average.

Between decreased levels of free testosterone, increased stress from work and family life and being pulled in about 20 different directions - being a middle aged guy can be tough! Fear Not Guys, Nature To The Rescue!

The beginning of this post was so depressing that I think my testosterone levels just dropped another 10%!  Enough of that, let's switch gears and get to the good news.  There are plenty of ways to naturally increase your testosterone, mood, energy and libido!

        That You Can Start Today...

1. Eat Healthy Fats

You've heard it a million times - fat is bad for you, cholesterol will increase your risk of heart attacks.  There is just one problem...those statements are wrong!  Current research shows endless health benefits from eating healthy fats such as fish oil, coconut oil, raw olive oil, grass-fed meat, butter from grass-fed milk, avocados and raw nuts.

Simply put, people who have a diet high in healthy fats and good cholesterol (HDL) have higher testosterone levels.  This study found that getting less than 40% of your energy from fat resulted in a marked decrease in testosterone levels.

2. Cut Carbs and Sugar 

Sorry guys, but that pizza is not doing anything to help your Libido.  Just as healthy fats have been shown to increase testosterone levels, diets high in carbs and sugar have been shown to hurt testosterone levels.  When you eat sugar or carbs you spike your insulin levels.  When your insulin levels go up, your testosterone levels go down (study).  You don't have to completely eliminate carbs and sugars, but the more you can scale back, the better for your libido!

3. Sleep More

Who says you can't sleep your troubles away?  Studies show that sleeping 8 hours a night as compared to just 5-6 hours can cause a significant rise in testosterone levels.   In fact, this study showed that guys who slept for 8 hours had double the testosterone levels compared to guys who slept just 4 hours.

 4. Stress Less 

This goes hand-in-hand with Sleeping more, but it is much easier said than done.  I'll admit it, this is a challenging one for me.  Just that stress can lead to a marked reduction in testosterone levels can stress me out.  Oh no, I think I just felt my testosterone levels drop again.

When we are stressed our body releases cortisol.  The problem is, cortisol actually blocks the effects of testosterone, creating a situation where we may have available testosterone but it is not active.

To reduce stress you can try meditation, yoga, and other relaxation techniques.  You can also go with a Magnesium supplement as magnesium has been shown to drastically reduce stress levels AND help you sleep better, which in turn will help increase the amount of testosterone in your body.

5. Adapt With Adaptogens

7. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) For High Testosterone

Working out and exercise can absolutely help with testosterone and libido, especially if you do interval training.  Studies show that the more fat we cary, the lower our testosterone levels.  So, any exercise that decreases body fat will help, but interval training has even greater benefits.  High intensity interval training (HIIT) has been shown to increase testosterone levels in numerous studies, while aerobic exercise has not been shown to have any significant impact on testosterone levels.

We live in a toxic world.  Scientists currently estimate that humans carry at least 700 toxic chemicals in our bodies that have not been studied.  These toxins interfere with our hormones and neurotransmitters.  You can be sleeping 8 hours a night, reducing stress and eating a healthy fat diet, but if toxins have compromised the ability of your body to function properly, you will still be tired, grumpy and lacking libido.

11. Plan for Unplanned Romance

This sounds like an oxymoron, but all the Dads out there know what I am talking about.  It is nice to have spontaneous romantic moments... but it is hard to be spontaneous when you have kids. The solution? Have a date night, have the kids go over to grandma's - give yourself the opportunity to be romantic with your partner.  You may think you are "never in the mood anymore", but it might just be that having a house full of kids is keeping you from getting there.  Give yourself the mere opportunity to be romantic and you'll be surprised!
